Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) a new main event for its upcoming return to Halifax in the form of heavyweight power punchers Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne. Elsewhere on the card, Johny Hendricks jumps up to 185 pounds to try to resurrect his stalled career against struggling middleweight Hector Lombard. All that and so much more! A heavyweight fight between Travis Browne and Derrick Lewis has been rescheduled from UFC 208 in Brooklyn to the following weekend's UFC Fight Night: Halifax card. The news, reported by Canadian sports outlet The Score, comes after the Halifax, Nova Scotia card lost its original main event bout between Junior dos Santos and Stefan Struve over an injury to Struve's shoulder.
Some have criticized UFC 208 for being light on marquee fights. But with the recent addition of Anderson Silva versus Derek Brunson to the card, it seems like the UFC is confident enough in the event's drawing power to shift the well known Browne and rising prospect Lewis over to the Canadian card. UFC Fight Night 105 takes place Feb. 19 at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Heavyweight Rankings : Lewis (17-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC), is No. 10 , and Browne (18-5-1 MMA, 9-5-1 UFC) is No. 12.
Lewis recently picked up his fifth straight UFC win after scoring a fourth-round TKO win over Shamil Abdurakhimov in this December’s UFC Fight Night 102 headliner. Afterward, the 31-year-old expressed disappointment with his slow start and overall performance (watch the video above), but the heavy-handed fighter, who now has 15 knockouts in 17 career wins, mentioned Browne as a potential opponent for his next bout. Lewis now gets his wish, and he meets a former top contender in Browne, who went 4-1 with victories over the likes of Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett from 2013-2014. However, the 34-year-old Hawaiian is stuck in a 1-3 skid that includes recent losses to former champs Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum.
